Research interest

My research works focus on purification and characterization of bioactive secondary metabolites from plants. Another aspect of my research on natural products focus on antimalarial plant recipes, plant dyes in solar water desinfection and production of biofuel from local plant seeds. For my work, I received the TWAS-C.N.R. Rao Prize for my contributions to the knowledge of natural products that help treat malaria and disinfect water. A key piece of this work was to test local herbal medicine traditions, such as those practiced by trusted community members to treat diseases, to scientifically demonstrate their effectiveness so that they can be more broadly used.

Key words: NMR, Mechanism of organic reaction, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Natural Products, Secondary Metabolites, Malaria, Water desifection

Scientific visits

In the course of my scientific career, I have been a visiting scholar in several laboratoires across the globe. I visited and carried out research works at Weizmann Institute, Rehovot (Israel), at several Belgian institutions including Facultés Universitaires Notre Dame de la Paix (Namur), the Department of Chemistry at Université Catholique de Louvain -la-Neuve and at Ghent University; at Osaka University (Osaka, Japan); at Cambrigde Major Laboratories, USA…
